RAC- Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism
RAC coordinated meetings between more than 5,000 Reform Jews and 47 Senate offices to urge them to pass two federal bills that would protect the freedom to vote in every state. Subsequently the Freedom to Vote Act (S. 2747), which is based largely on the For the People Act (S.1), was introduced and is likely to be brought to a vote in the next couple of weeks. It is expected that the Freedom to Vote Act will run into the same issue with the filibuster that S. 1 faced. RAC is encouraging the Senate to reform the filibuster to allow a vote on S. 1 and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The forces for and against the freedom to vote are evenly split in the Senate. We need push pro-voting Senators to work as hard as possible and anti-voting Senators not to stand in the way. We also need to put pressure on President Biden to use all of his persuasion and political pressure to make sure the Senate has the votes to reform the filibuster.
